A new Coalition for Anti-Corruption is Announced
Exciting news from the recent Sudan Business for Peace Conference organized by the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), in Addis Ababa. On February 29, 2024, a significant step was taken to bolster the fight against corruption in Sudan with the announcement of the Anti-Corruption Taskforce-Sudan (ACT-Sudan).
The launch of ACT-Sudan marks a pivotal moment in anticorruption actors’ collective efforts to develop a cohesive anticorruption agenda for Sudan. The coalition is composed of esteemed founding members, from the local civil society organizations, including the Al Khatim Adlan Center for Enlightenment (KACE), Sudanese Democracy First Group, Wa’ey Association, Sudanese Consumer Protection Society (SCPS), and the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate, the membership will be open for additional organizations and institutions to join in the future, upon fulfilling the membership criteria.
ACT-Sudan’s founding statement, unveiled at the conference, outlined the group’s purpose and objectives. The primary goal is to establish a robust and adaptable anticorruption agenda that is actionable for all stakeholders in Sudan. This initiative is not just about identifying the challenges Sudan faces but also about implementing practical solutions that will bring about real and lasting changes. The announcement of the new ACT-Sudan was in front of various sectors of society, including business leaders, civil society organizations, media outlets, international development agencies, and diplomatic circles, to ensure a wide-ranging and effective approach.
The coalition believes that through collaborative efforts, it can contribute to stopping the war and combat humanitarian aid-related corruption; along with financial, administrative, and institutional corruption; and seeking to boost and strengthen the capabilities of its constituent organizations, in order to achieve highest levels of transparency, integrity and accountability in all three sectors.
